Marc Augé Conference, Professor of Anthropology and Ethnology of the School of Advanced Studies in Science Sociales in Paris.

For the author of “Non-Places,” “Crossing the Luxembourg Gardens” and “impossible journey” among other titles, “travel is the literal transfer and / or metaphorical to the encounter of the other and, consequently, towards the construction of identity. ”

“The process of identity construction that operates on the subject when they travel” is for Augé contrary to “the logic of information sharing that enable new technologies” of communication. While the trip is “a physical experience of real subjects, whose identities are in constant transformation, information exchange is between subjects and assumptions made, with a distinct identity and immovable, and isolated from each other” … “The images are to us who are in turn surrounded by dentures that make us believe that we can communicate without moving. What we do not realize is that this contact is somewhat false, because there is no real relationship between human beings and the identity is constructed without exceptions in negotiating with others. The traveler is ideal in this sense, the exact opposite of the computer navigator. ”

Augé proposes as the best option to escape from this situation, “to travel again, in a literal sense, and also in a metaphorical search for others, two year stay motionless, looking at pictures that replace others, and because is the only way to reach the center of ourselves. ”

“The cult television and the Internet is of type ‘narcissistic’: so it costs us to establish links with those around us who spent the day in front of images that reflect only what we are, that could only show us our own face, our isolation and our individualism. We have created a new experience of solitude, with no social dimension, which goes no less than against human nature, destroy the collective dreams and the imaginary individual. “

STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLES

· SEA – Asociación de Centros de Idiomas is, since 1993, an institution that protects and defends the ethical management and encourages cooperation and rightful procedure among its members in their task of teaching a language in Argentina and the region.

· SEA requires its members to practice their profession following strict standards and values of respect, credibility, integrity, fairness and loyalty among its members, and emphasizing their professional and social commitment to the community that it integrates and to which it is directed. SEA undertakes to help its members in the process of awareness, assessment and systemization of the above mentioned values in the relation of each member with the institution, its colleagues, its clients, suppliers, students, employees and the community in general.

· SEA serves all its integrating members, in order to use its authority to intervene in the solution of problems that are common to all its members. This means that it is not committed to any Institute in particular.

· It guarantees that the initiatives and ideas of the members are openly expressed and, that if they are approved, they are implemented for the benefit of all parties involved.

MEMBERS CODE OF CONDUCT

1 . The members of SEA shall respect this code of conduct established by this institution to the letter.

2. The members, as stated in the 10th section of the Internal Regulations, shall not make use of SEA meetings and assemblies to promote their private businesses. This clearly divides the sphere of institutional practice of each of the associates from the actions related to common welfare.

3 . All associates that, pursuant to the by-laws, are elected to be part of the Direction Commission (DC) or its deputy commissions shall not use such authority to obtain from institutions, agencies or companies concessions destined to the institutes they manage in their capacity as directors, managers or owners.

4. All associated language centers shall undertake to maintain and guarantee a procedure of quality control and continuous improvement in language teaching.

5. All language centers shall supply SEA with complete, real and verifiable information on the characteristics of the Institute and its operation.

6. The language center shall make available their students and clients all the information referring to their professional and monthly fees, payment and collection methods, registration and discharge procedure, acceptance of training policies by their clients and, in general, all the conditions that rule the relation among the institution, the students and their clients.

7. All certificates issued by the associated member shall follow a criterion that is true, professional and ready to be evaluated, informing their students and/or clients on the scope of their validity, pursuant to the laws in force.

8. The staff of the associated centers shall have competent professionals, specialized in teaching the language they deal with.

9. All members of SEA shall openly display the Statement of Principles and the Code of Conduct for their students and clients awareness.
